Anyone used Orb yet and successfully watched something on their Touch? I'm interested in experimenting with it and wondering if anyone had any advice. Sure, I have a 4 gig card and can put anything there, but again, I like to fiddle and want to try a few various things out; namely, to be able to share some short clips with other friends that have similar phones. Video, mostly, but obviously music too.

Thanks in advance!

I played around with it for a while a few months back. I could never get videos to work correctly, but I was able to play music. Take into account that I was using ORB for mac, which is a less stable version than the windows one, so don't let my lack of success with videos keep you from trying.

Orb will work on the touch. Once you load orb on your pc log in on your phone with the same password. The first thing you need to do once you log in using your phone is to go to settings and I select speed test. From the settings menu look for stream. Under stream select "3gp aac." It should work at that point. I have a tv tuner on my computer and I can watch tv on my phone and the quality is decent. It will kill the battery fairly quick so I usually charge my phone while using orb.

One problem I do have is my browser wants to crash when I use orb. I have to stop the page from completely loading after I click log in. After that I usually do not have any problem.

My problem was browser crashing as well. I never tried stopping the page before it finished loading… maybe I'll give ORB another go when I get some time.

I set everything up last night and didn't have any luck either - thanks for the advice on setting the speed on the phone first. I'll try again tonight.

Another question, a simple one hopefully - once this is up and running, how hard is it to broadcast to other Orb viewers? If I found a few of you that were interested, would I just share a link somehow, or would everyone have to properly subscribe? And would there be a url site I could just give to another Touch user, or would they have to get an Orb login also?

Thanks for all the help guys, with such a lack in programming I am looking for ways around this. Nice to have help on seeing if things will go smoothly or not.

edit: I've gotten it to work. I'm experimenting via Handbrake on dialing down some of the videos I have, not sure how much time I'll have tonight or later this week to know anything for sure but I'll report back.

Well I had this up and running for the last two days with no issues whatsoever. Thought it was really cool, especially being able to watch the webcam at home from my phone anywhere, as well as a few locally streamed TV sites.

Now today, it crashes the phone. Tried stopping the browser before it loaded since others have had that problem. I could see my list of favorites, but when I clicked on any, the phone would reboot.

But like I said, it worked great for two days. Oh well. If I figure out what's happening differently, I'll let everyone know. The phone's browser never wants to remember my login info, so maybe I need to get to the screen to reset the connection speeds each time. Dang annoying, that. Wish there was a way to extend cookie life or whatever it is that makes our browsers forget who we are for each website.

Try clearing out your cache before you stream your Orb content.  It might help.

Thanks e-T, but do you mean my PC's cache, or the phone's cache?

Your phone's cache. Your computer isn't crashing when you try to stream through your phone so your phone is the issue. Since you had it going for a couple days without issue, it's best to consider the aspects of the phone that might have changed over that period of time. The cache filling up is one of those options.

I'll search a bit later today and see where I can clear the phone's cache, I found where to delete the history but not the cache.

I got it up and running again last night, but I had to keep stopping the browser, and yes I did have to reset the phone's connection settings. I'll check in a few times today - it might be cool to peek in on ESPN Live's internet feed via Orb while I'm at the UF/TN game this afternoon!

:)Hello to Everyone here,  I have gotten Orb to work just fine with the tweaks mentioned above......1) stopping the browser from fully loading the page, and changing the settings as mentioned above. Thanks. When will they offer us some third party apps ? Seems like this phone has much potential and not much support. Peace, V

Hello there LippySquirrel. I've resigned myself to the maybe-fact that there won't be any third party apps for this phone. I hope I'm wrong, and if I am, it'll be a nice surprise. But with finding work-arounds and such with other programs like Orb, I have hope that there's a potential that will only be reached if we share ideas and discoveries. Lemme know if you find anything cool to stream via Orb! My username is the same if you want to add me as a friend, but I haven't figured out how that really works yet. Plus I'm not keeping my computer on all the time, usually just on weekends at this point.

Just wanted to tell everyone that I played with Orb extensively over the weekend, and with the new v5 update, I had no browser crashes whatsoever! I (still) highly recommend Orb!

Ditto!  It really helps to run a speed test after selecting the correct video streaming format.
