Hi, I'm going to be under my dad's 2nd line and I'll be getting an env touch and I know you have to pay $10 a month for the data plan and I researched on this site and I think that's about 25 MB of data? I use facebook often so I want to know how much facebooking I can get out of 25 MB a month? I looked it up on yahoo answers and it looked like the answer-er implied that, since facebook, myspace, etc. is already bookmarked on the Env touch, if you have a data plan, you can use that as much as you want for free:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090607161043AALpFi9

Is that what he meant or am I interpreting it wrong?

Another question, assuming I don't use all of my 25 MB a month and only use 16 MB for example, then that would leave 9 MB left, does that mean the next month, it'll be 25 MB + last month's unused 9 MB and I'll have 34 available MB for that month? And how can I check up to see how much MB I've used?

Sorry for being so inquisitive lol, i'm just a little confused! Thanks though!

**Edit: I have no desire to download any apps, pictures, ringtones etc -  strictly just facebooking and maybe occasional web-browsing if I need it on the go*

facebook is a major data hog.  i wouldn't advise using it much with the 25 MB plan.  heck, even casual web browsing uses a lot of megabytes.  any site with lots of pics, you'll be running into 25 MB after about 5 days.

if you use social beat, facebook is better for miserly data usage because social beat is more limited to stuff like the wall and what you're doing.

and no, data won't roll over.  but trust me, unless you try to hold down your data usage, you'll always be in danger of going past 25 MB.

to save on data, you can set the browser to not load the images.  most websites don't try to skimp on data.  loading one pic on a website could take a MB by itself.

but if you stick to mobile email, social beat you can definitely stay under 25 MB.  but start web browsing...  and yikes, it can go up big time.

Once you're assigned a phone # under your father's plan, make yourself a MY ACCOUNT log-in in Verizon's website.  You should be able to track your data usage.  There's no "blanket" statement as for how much a particular site will use since it depends heavily on the amount of images have for example in the newsfeed, or if you're accessing the internet multiple times an hour and such.

Good Luck!

you can also check your data usage by dialing #DATA on the phone

or if you're good about resetting your counters, you can use "view timers".  go to recent calls.  and then do the drop-down and select view timers.

25 MB is a joke.  It's like a phone plan that's limited to 100 texts or 100 min. per month.  It's just about impossible unless you rarely surf.  Casual Web surfing will undoubtedly have you exceed 25 MB in little time.

That's why I don't pay anything for VZW's data services.  I know those who want a contract w/ enV Touch today now have to get a min. data plan, so it inflates the cost.

A vendor visited my company last Fri. and he was using AT&T's air card to get his laptop on the network since he's not allowed to use our company network.  He brought up a few Web sites that he used for his presentation.  Over the course of less than 3 hours, just going through his slides using a few Web sites that it called out caused it to use some 40 MB of data in both directions.  I know it b/c his login screen was on the screen and when he ended his tethered Internet, it showed something like 35 MB down and 5 MB up consumed.  Shocked

The 25MB plan wasn't designed for actual use/consumption, it's more of a gimmick to stop peoples' constant "Oops I must have pressed the wrong button can you refund me the three dollars" charges that people without data plans would constantly have.
