Hello,

Looking forward to hearing your wisdom on this topic.  I signed up for the 25 MB data plan, thinking that it would be sufficient for now.  The phone arrived 12 days ago and according to Verizon, 17.321 MB have accumulated; its frustrating, as I haven't used the mobile email client in a week, and haven't gone on any websites since the first couple of days and that, just to check the weather forecasts.

The usage sure does pile up quickly, and I was surprised to find it should happen so easily, never having had a data plan before.

Wondering if its possible to "misconfigure" one of the ports or proxy urls in the service menu to effectively stop the data usage.  Alternately, has anyone found useful strategies for managing their data usage on this limited plan?

Thanks!

You could call VZW and ask to disconnect the data plan.  I realize that this phone now requires one, but I suppose you can request them to disable your access to the 'net.  I don't know if you can ask them to configure so that it automatically cannot get on the 'net after you've reached 25 MB for the month - that would be a nice feature.  I don't have a data plan and was getting hit with bogus data charges (probably through accidental usage), so I called VZW to have the 'net disabled from my phone.

Thank you for the information - I'll call verizon tonight & explore having them turn off 'net access.  Good idea!

You can go online to "My Account" and "block" data.  It shouldn't affect your MMS or SMS capabilities.

If you double-check whether or not the block affects your data plan subscription, you can always block every month once you hit say 23+MB until the next reset date. :-)
