After over 2 years - since June 2009 - I've decided to replace my LG enV Touch with the Motorola Droid 3, which just launched.  I ordered it yesterday and it's due to arrive early next week.  I enjoyed using my phone and learning tips and tricks from the friendly folks on env-touch.com forum and I hope I've been able to help some folks as well.  Best wishes to you and your next mobile device.  Cool

I'll probably still lurk for a little while until I've fully transitioned to my new phone.  Smiley

Thanks!

Here's] some info. about the phone.  You're right that it's not 4G, just 3G.  4G may not be in my area for another 2 years, so I figured I'd get the phone that has everything else I was looking for: dual-core processor, 8MP camera, front-facing camera, HDMI connector, and QWERTY keyboard.  The current 4G phones don't have a keyboard.

I love my first gen droid, it may be underpowered compaired to the newer droids but it still gets the job done. I quit using my physical keyboard about a couple of months after getting it, I recently downloaded a swype type keyboard that I like. The stats sound good for the phone, I want something like that but with 4g which we have here where I live, I am not eligible until feb so I have some time. you wiull love the gorilla glass, there is no need for a screen protector on it.

Yeah, I figure by getting a screen, QWERTY kb, and SWYPE, I can learn to text the other 2 ways.  The kb will be like training wheels for me until I get used to screen typing, or gasp, learn to SWYPE.

By Feb. 2012, you'll have a really good variety of 4G phones available to you by then.  Cool

You answered my question I was going to ask about a screen protector.  So that's completely unnecessary and it's pretty scratch proof or at least scratch resistant?  I'll still look for a carrying case so I can snap the phone to my belt.

Well Wulf, best of luck to you with your new device.  Here's to no glitches Tongue  I have often thought of going by way of DROID but just not sure about the cost.  I have the old data plan for 10 bucks and I am afraid it will jump if I switch. Sad  Keep us posted as to how well the transition goes for you.

Thanks, CptTom.  Yeah, if price is a concern, you might as well stay w/ the enV Touch until it dies.  I'll get sticker shock when my bill essentially doubles.  Shocked

I received my Droid 3 yesterday and have been trying to learn it and figure out Android.  It's a bit of a learning curve, but so far, so good.  Compared to the enV Touch, this thing is fast!  But it's battery isn't that great.  Then again, I'm messing around w/ it quite a bit, pretty much doing everything except making phone calls.  Go figure that a phone these days is used for everything but making calls!  laugh

yeah the screen is super scratch proof, my phone has had several unfortunate falls onto concrete and the screen is still flawless. All smart phones have bad battery life because there is so much going on in the background with apps etc. A few things you can do to help with bettery life is turn the screen brightness down a little that is usually the number one user of your battery, also get an app killer to kill apps you don't need to be running all the time, I bet if you look at whats running the amazon music store that comes pre-installed is running, unless they quite including that one in the newer phones.

Hey Beowulf, Thanks for all your help on the forums. Enjoy your new toy. I am thinking of upgrading to the D3 as well. I had the OG Droid but returned for the Env Touch, just couldn't stand the kybd. But I was able to play with the D3 and like you said it has everything I am looking for in a phone. As for 4G since it only contains to data I could care less. If I need a faster connection there is always Wifi  Tongue

That's true there's a lot of "behind the scenes" stuff going on w/ a smartphone, so it's battery is always being consumed.  That's amplified with a 4G LTE phone, which is 1 of the main reasons I stayed away from 4G right now (along w/ the fact that there are no 4G phones w/ a physical kb and 4G isn't available in my home, although it is 3 mi. away).  I downloaded the app "Juice Defender" today, so I'm hoping that helps w/ the battery life.

I had to LOL at what I assume is your typo "bettery".  But that's pretty appropriate b/c a better battery would indeed be a bettery!  laugh

I tried to help out where I could but these forums are really good b/c of members like you.  I learned a lot from you folks.  I joined Android Forums to learn tips and tricks w/ my D3 and Android in general.  If you see me there (same username) give me a shout-out.

I do like the D3.  The worst things about it are the poor battery life and the blurry/bluish pics it takes (yet video is very good).  About 4G, I checked out a 4G phone a month ago at the local VZW store, which is barely within the 4G area, and ran the Speed Test app on it.  I was blown away that it got 30+ Mbps download.  That's much faster than my home Internet!  Shocked
