Incoming email tone

 I did a search and found other posts on this topic, but no recent ones, and no good answers, so here goes again...

Does anyone know how to get rid of that annoying incoming email beep?  Or at least modify it to a less irritating, quieter sound?
So far, it's the only thing I don't like about my new phone!  My wife got the eNV3 and hers does the same thing.

I played around and think I found an answer to this problem:
Messaging
Email
Mobile email
Click on the user name for which you want to cancel the notification tone
When the emails are loaded, click on OPTIONS
Scroll down to PREFERENCES
You will see an option:Alert me for new messages
Click the button NEVER
Click SAVE

That should do it! (I hope)
The people at the local Verizon store had no idea how to do this, but I figured it MUST be possible.
