I thought this phone was supposed to be some type of "multimedia powerhouse" or something. Okay, okay, I'm not here to bash the phone cause I absolutley love it. I'm just really disaponted with the music capabilites. I surfed and saw other ppl are having similiar problems and I jsut hoped maybe mine might have a soltution or something, IDK!

This is my first phone that i've tried putting music onto and wouldn't ya know it, it worked terribley.

First! I transfered all the music I wanted directly from itunes to my microSD via a usb card reader for my mac. And when i opened it all up on my phone (1,000 some songs) 75% of them were missing their album artwork period, 15% with album artwork that didn't belong with the file, and a small handfull that worked properly  Shocked So i was like... SON OF A B! Cause I'm really anal about that stuff and I wanted everything to be perfect. Sooooo, i tried to figure out what happened. After tooling for hours I noticed that each music file (the ones that had no artwork on the phone) was missing the jpeg of the album within the file.

AH-HA! i thought... So it wasn't pretty, VERY tedious, and took HOURS to do, but I went through and copy and pasted EVERY SINGLE album art to EACH INDIVIDUAL file SEPERATLEY. I was convinced this would work. Grin

Well of course it didn't  Huh? and then I also noticed that multiple artists i put on were missing MANY songs i wanted on there. Every single file is in mp3 format and not protection encrypted.    Cry   i was very disapointed/ upset/  Angry

Pretty much everyone uses iTunes, don't you think they would've fixed this so called "LG, iTunes" phone problem by now??? WTF is up with this???

just because a lot of people use itunes doesn't mean apple wants to give people an easy way to connect it to a non apple product.

If you have the MP3s ID3v1 tagged, it should be OK.  I'm not sure if the phone supports ID3v2.

The touch does support ID3v2, all my songs use it.

This is not LG's fault. WMP and Itunes both suck at album art with non approved devices. The album art that iTunes downloads is stored in a special folder created by the application, and is kept separate from the music itself. This is not standard, and WMP's way of handing art isn't either.

I use Media Monkey or Mp3tag to tag my library and have properly embeded album art and everything works fine.

It sucks that you have a mac, but you can try Floola or Songbird I heard both were decent alternatives.

One thing I noticed is that you can group all of the songs of the same album in the same folder.  Then if you also put a .jpg file of the album in that same folder, THAT is the artwork that will be displayed when any of those songs are playing...no matter what artwork you have pasted in the song file.

Are multi-level folders supported?  Within "my_music", I have it broken down by artist name.  Then it's further broken down by album name, but I'm not seeing any of those MP3s appear when sorting my artist name, other than 1 MP3 file that I have at the same level that's by artist name.  I checked the ID3 v1/v2 tags of all of those MP3s and they seem to be correct.

You can't make any subfolders on your card to be used on the Touch.  The Touch will only recognize the folders that it puts on the card when you format it inside the phone.

To clarify, I meant sub-folders within "my_music", which of course is what the Touch creates on a freshly formatted card.  So, it would be my_music\Artist1\Album1, my_music\Artist1\Album2, etc.  It seems like only 1 level of folders below my_music is recognized.  I'm going to experiment with this a little more.

That's exactly how I have mine setup.  For example:
my_music\Michael Jackson\HIStory- Past, Present and Future, Book I Disc 1
my_music\Michael Jackson\HIStory- Past, Present and Future, Book I Disc 2
my_music\Michael Jackson\Thriller

No problems.

Thanks, that's good to know.  I'll have to troubleshoot why my double foldered MP3s aren't showing up.

I'm not sure how other people have gone through and solved their music problems, but when i first got the phone, i loaded all of my .mp3's on using usb connection > usb mass storage and dropping everything into my music folder with each mp3 having the format of "Artist - Title.mp3"  All of my songs had Artist/Title/Album/etc tags filled out, yet some still recognized the artist as "NONE" and the song name as "Artist - Title" in the All Songs list.

To solve this, I went in mp3tag, imported all of my files, select all, and resaved the tags.  On the songs that were not loading in my phone correctly, i noticed under the tag column in mp3tag that the ID changed from ID3v2.3 (ID3v2.3) to ID3v2.3 (ID3v1 ID3v2.3).  After doing this, i resaved my music onto my phone and the files were correctly organize.  I'm just throwing it out there, but the phone may be looking for ID 3v1.
