A friend asked me what the download and upload speed is for the enV Touch and with other phones that VZW offers.  Is that info. published or do we need to hunt around for it?  He currently has an older BlackBerry and uses it for tethered mobile broadband.  He knows it's EV-DO, but I told him there are different Revs., but I don't know how what that means in terms of speed.  Thanks in advance.

No problem!  Keep in mind that these are theoretical speeds ... signal strength, landscape interference do play a role.

No problem!  Keep in mind that these are theoretical speeds ... signal strength, landscape interference do play a role.

BTW, my friend also wondered if there is a difference between Rev A and 3G.  Huh?

rev a is 3g but a faster chip in the phone, my voy has rev 0 and is not as fast as phones with rev a

Thanks, I see, so my friend's BlackBerry 3G phone should be as fast as Rev. A.  I also mentioned to him he can run a speed test, such as from http://www.speedtest.net/.

Yup, rev0 and revA are both considered 3G.

An interesting fact is that revB has been certified, or at least drafted, but there's no indication that providers outside of Chine will embrace that particular modem and phone upgrade.

with vzw's 4g fast approaching who knows what chipset they will be using. I personally an very anxious to get a 4g device, I hate waiting for pages to load  Cool

Well, for sure it will be a LTE/CDMA hybrid.  As of right now, VZW is strongly considering routing VOICE through 3G and DATA through 4G.  It would make sense as the 3G network is proven and reliable and you need to have those two things for 911 calls and government regulations.  As for 4G being this lightning fast behemoth, don't get your hopes up too high, real world versus theoretical capabilities tend to be worlds away.

true, but it will still be considerably faster, I am not expecting 20 mb speeds but it should still be quicker, the 3g for voice is a good idea at least for those of us in vzw's 3g areas, there are still some areas where vzw still doesn't have 3g coverage. At least we aren't on at&t's 3g because they do not have a very large coverage area lol

After reading how 100Mbps broadband may be closer than you think, I'd hope that mobile broadband keeps up!

LOL!  I didn't mean to imply that I'm hoping for 100 Mbps on mobile broadband, but that it would get progressively faster like the way home broadband will.
