Like turning off roaming, can I do that with data so I dont hit their broadband services by mistake?  I would assume that there is a setting in the service menu but I dont know what it is.

That would be okay, i could always turn it back on.  Besides, i have the basic calling plan anyways.  My thing is that Murphys law is renting a room at my place and its just a matter of time before I hit something and get a $300 bill.  I want to make sure I stay on the 1x band no matter what.

I am in canada on roaming and can't figure out how to disable the data so I don't have a huge bill. Any suggestions?

There is no true way to turn any feature off on your phone other than don't access it.  If you have no data plan then there is no data to be charged.  If you access any feature it will ask you if you want to proceed.  The choose is yours.  There is no true way to lock it out.

You can call up Verizon Wireless and ask them to disable your phone's data capabilities.  You'll still be able to send text messages, including pics and vids.  In our family plan, we wound up disabling the data capability (we have no data plan) b/c we'd accidentally go on the Internet and would lead to a charge of a few extra bucks per line each month and it was getting annoying to call up VZW to ask them to remove the charges (which they did).
