I've always been able to receive texts greater than 160 characters from non-VZW users, but whenever I sent them texts greater than 160 characters, I'd get the warning text from VZW that only the 1st 160 would be sent.  If VZW did remove this crippleware, then that's great.  Tonight or tomorrow, I'll try it out by texting more than 160 characters to a non-VZW user (or even my e-mail address) and see how that works.

QuadCoreGeek, thanks for posting that table, but you left out VZW smartphone to VZW smartphone.  I assume it also has a 1,120-character limit?

The last time I owned a VZW smnartphone was the summer of 2006, so I honestly can't accurately report on VZW smartphone to VZW smartphone.

let us know how your 160+ text test works out!
So far, I did an e-mail text test.  I entered 160 characters, but when I tried to surpass it, the phone told me that the maximum characters has been reached.  It sensed that I had an e-mail address in the To: field.  So 160 is still the max allowed to e-mail.  I didn't try a long text to a non-VZW customer yet.

I just sent a text to a non-VZW regular phone.  It sent and I didn't get any return messages from VZW.  The message was 327 characters long.  So woohoo for actually paying attention this time as to how long they are.  Smiley

I just sent a long text message to a T-Mobile customer that was 160+56=216 characters and didn't get a warning text from VZW.  Cool

Edit:  My friend who has T-Mobile service said he only got part of my test message, so the 1st 160 characters only. Sad (I guess the fault is w/ TM?)  I tried with a Sprint customer, but he retrieves his text with Google (virtual #), so that's really testing long text w/ Google and not Sprint.
