I've seen a few people describe the screen protector, in particular the invisible shield, to give the phone an orange peel effect, what does this mean?

I just got my Touch a few days ago so all thats protecting (if you can say it is) is the plastic piece that comes on it from the factory.  I'm avoiding taking it with me until I get some sort of protector but theres so many out there I'm not sure which I want.  I hear good things about a lot of them.

I never heard of the "orange peel" effect w/ the Invisible Shield.  I have a screen protector I got from EBay (much cheaper than Invisible Shield) and it looks just fine, esp. on the external screen.  The internal screen didn't get applied perfectly so it's got a couple minor "defects" toward the bottom.

The orange peel effect means that the protector is a bit textured like...a bit like an orange peel. It isn't distracting or anything but you will notice it.

I went with Xtreme Guard screen protectors, $6 shipped off of ebay, 2 for internal and 2 for external, lets see how they are.  I saw another member on these forums had them and said something positive so I went for it.

I haven't taken off the factory ones, haha, probably why I'm convinced my pictures don't look as crisp as they should, whoops.

I actually still have all my plastic pieces on too, even the side ones and they are all curled up lol.  I'm pretty sure they provide no protection though.

My recommendation would be to keep the plastic wrapper that comes w/ the phone for the internal screen.  But take all of the other plastic wrappers off and add a screen protector for the external screen.  If I could do it again, that's what I'd do.  I took the plastic wrapper off the internal screen and the screen protector for that screen didn't come out very good.

Did you by any chance notice a difference in viewing quality on that external screen between having the factory-cover and it just being the normal screen on its own??

I just installed the Xtreme Guard screen protector to the external screen and as of now it looks horrible.  Theres lots of stuff between the protector and screen that I HOPE are bubbles from the soap/water mix.  We'll see what happens in a few days I guess.

The external screen looked about the same regardless of the factory plastic piece or no cover at all.  And now even w/ the eBay screen protector, it still looks the same, but feels a little "thicker".  I'm very happy w/ the way the external screen protector came out.  It's the internal one that I'm a little so-so about, esp. near the bottom area.

Beowulf I took your advice and kept the internal one on since I really don't see myself scratching that, and plus its hardly noticeable.  What brand did you get off ebay?

That's good.  And since the internal screen doesn't get touched, it shouldn't be affected.

I got "2X - LCD Screen Protector For LG EnV Touch VX11000 - 2X   " sold by "t.j.r.".  It was a smooth transaction.

Okay, yea I was just wondering if we ended up with the same one but we didn't.  Like you said, mine is pretty much the same look and feel of the factory plastic piece.  One thing though is that when I slide it does seem more prone to slight squeaking than the factory piece.

Thanks!  I'll have to go ahead and budget taking the plunge, the factory piece is bound to unstick sooner rather than later.
