Hi,
I was on the phone with VZW tech support (2nd level, not the first person who answers, but the person you get transferred to) telling them about some of the minor issues I have with my phone.   During the conversation she asked if I had any issues with my battery life on this phone, I said yes and she said there was a new update for this phone which was released on 6/11 to help with battery life.  This was not the OTA update to version 03, but an update which is done when you call *228, and select option 1, we went through the update process and she was very specific about after dialing *228 and hitting send, you have to open the phone and use the internal keyboard to continue the update (select 1) and have the phone updated (do not use the external soft keys).  I did that while I was on the phone with her.
I am not sure if this is helpful, but I thought I will pass this along to others who have the battery issues.

Not unless this programs your phone to get more battery life.  This leads to the program your phone option.

could just be chaining the way it tries to keep it's signal strength? of course seems a little silly to have to open it up. Maybe jayochs is just playing Simon Says, lol

Okay, so maybe it's in my mind, But I did the update last night.  My phone with me not using it much I couldn't even get a full 24 hours on a charge.  Yesterday I was down to 1 bar and had to put it on charger. (tornado warnings, I wanted to make sure I had more of a charge in case of power outtage).  It got to 4 bars but never "full".  I updated it shortly there after unplugging.  It had dropped to 3 bars, but I played with the internet last night I've texted, talked, and played on the internet today quite a bit.  Still holding at 3 bars.  So it feels like it's done something so far... but I'm going to keep playing around on it and see what happens... will keep everyone updated!

Okay after further testing.. to no avail... Didn't work.. still a crappy battery that won't last me 24 hours.  Sad Boooo.  My husbands does seem to do a tick better than mine, even with him listening to MP3s all day.  And talking a lot.

I did the update last night while i had one battery bar left.  Ran the phone dead last night, turned it off and charged it.  I was up and had it on at 6:30 CT this morning and have put it through some pretty typical use today.  3 hrs of phone calls, 30 text messages, 1/3 of the Dark Knight (I will have a post up soon on using handbrake to optimize videos for the Touch) some music and adding calender events.  Its 9:40 CT and i've only used one battery bar.  Don't know what it was but the update did something to it.  looking forward to hearing what your guys results are.

well after an overnight charge I ...

starting at 7am
Made calls
watch The Office from SD card
Navigator on the way home
youtube
3 or 4 pics
few txt
25min call with the wife

and at about 12 midnight it just went to two bars

Not bad, can't say it was the program update, lots of folks are reporting the bat life gets better after a few days of use.

I use to work as a CSR for VZW, at the end of our calls we would always tell people who hadn't done their *228 in a while to do it. We always told the customer to do this monthly or before a long trip as it updates the list of usable towers.
It is possible for the phone to use less battery on the off chance that a new tower near your place of usage has gone up. If your phone doesn't know to look for it because it has an old tower list it would automatically choose the older, lower signal one. Still, it's highly unlikely that a tower list can really do anything for this phones battery consumption. It would really take a new firmware with more power saving features added in.

Im also suprised they told you to use option 1. Thats normally for first time setup or reactivation purposes. Option 2 updates the tower list.
