Greets and thanks for reading this.
This is a summary of my successful firmware upgrade to vx11kv05.
System: Windows XP Pro sp3 (sorry Mac users, you only have FOTA) 4GB RAM (well Windows sees like 3.2GB of it) Pentium 4 3GHz cpu LG USB Driver version 4.9.4 LGMobile Support Tool v1.0.1.5
1)Turn off phone. 2)Remove microSD 3)If necessary, download then install the latest LG USB driver. Just do a forum search to get the link. 4) Download then install the LGMobile Support software. Again, search the forum for the link. 5) Connect phone to computer using the USB cable. Windows should detect the phone as new hardware. The phone should enter charging state. 6) Launch LGMobile Support. 7) Click on Start Updating then follow the prompts.
My total elapsed time was 20:06.
See the help file for troubleshooting tips.
The first thing the updater did was update my USB driver from 4.9.4 to 4.9.6. You will be prompted to unplug the phone for the driver update. The software will then notify you when to plug the phone back in.
The firmware file that was downloaded was about 96MB in size.
Go to Customer Support-->Supporting Model to see the phones that can be flashed using the updater.
There is a menu that enables download of the latest driver and documentation.
So follow the prompts and you should be okay.

I have read the forums on the Lgmobile site and came to find out that this version 5 that is available is a beta version and not the official one. It has not yet been launched.

So far no bugs on my phone, impressive for a "beta".

Why would LG/VZW allow a beta version to become posted in the firmware updates?

Why would LG/VZW allow a beta version to become posted in the firmware updates?
Because #5 is beta, and #6 will be the final final release that fixes everything and has every feature we've been waiting for!

They wouldn't. VZW would never allow a beta firmware to be released regardless of what is being said in another forum.

I would have to agree with e.t beta program could really be bad and i think that it could really mess up your phone . So why would they release a beta just so the store would fill up with a lot of messed up touches

That's what I read on lg. You don't have to believe it but instead do your own research please. I apologize for trying to help. I have not had success with the uploader.

I just did the whole update thing just as geishaslave posted. It took me a couple of tries, but I finally got it! Updated from V03 to V05. The only diff I noticed so far is when I re-do my shortcuts, when I actually put on on the shortcut list, it " dims" the choice I made back on the list so I dont double up. Ringtnes dont seem any louder, but for some reason the phone does seem "crisper" when I use the touchscreen. If I notice any others Ill stick em here.
Oh... The only real prob I had prior was my touch would reset to defaults when I either/or shut it off, or plugged her in to recharge, or both...it varied. Default shortcuts, and default wallpapers....

This is an older post so let it be known the driver ver. is now 4.9.7, but I trust you knew that and have it. Next, I have found it best to power down the phone, plug in cable and then start the updater. Not sure what ver of the firmware you will get but v11 is the latest and that is done over the air. All other ver.'s have to be updated by the update program. If you still have issues, let us know.

Sparks, did you try the update program with the phone off? I also find it hard to believe that the vzw store could not update it for you. They all should have that capability.
