Tried to update via the LG updater software and it told me it was having problems communicating with my phone. Told me to disconnect cord, remove battery, insert battery connect cord and try again. Did that and now my phone is frozen with a downloading do not unplug message on the front. I remove the battery and try and do a hard reset but can't get my phone do anything. Any ideas?

I had to do this a few times, make sure the cord is disconnected when you disconnect the battery. Next, reconnect the battery, but don't reconnect the cord. Try to turn on your phone at this point and see if it will work. Before you try again, make sure your phone is completely charged.

Did that but no luck. I took it to the Verizon store and they said I'm screwed. Ordered me a replacement. lesson learned I will let them do all the rest of my updates.

I agree just wait on Verizon. The version 5 is not released to Verizon yet because there are still bugs in it. It is not yet complete therefore what is out is not official. It is a beta version. Might be a month or two until it's really out and you will have to possibly take it to a store.

The bugs with the updates would support the notion of a Beta, but I find it hard to grasp that VZW would allow LG to be uploading Beta Flashes into their LG Phones. Then again, the install process does have disclaimers when installing the LG updater.

It isn't a beta upgrade. The problems here are not with V05, they are with the LG updater. The fact that LG created V05 and released it via their site before Verizon released it doesn't mean it's beta, it just means that Verizon hasn't started offering the update in stores yet.
As has been stated elsewhere in the forums, there is a risk associated with using the LG updater software, but if you want to take that risk, the software is a way to get updates earlier and with less hassle than you would be able to in a Verizon store.

The fact is that the carrier that provides service with this specific phone has not released the firmware update because the update is not fully prepared to access the issues that the touch has. I have read that yes the program has problems and thus not making good changes but instead worse changes. I am stating what I have read and information from speaking with lg and Verizon. I actually read on an lg forum that is was a beta version and it may not be true though I would advise people to be cautious and patient. It will be out through the carrier.

I stand corrected though that some have had success with the uploader and that is good. Not everyone though including myself. I will be patient and not complain so much about the issues.

I hear ya. And like I said, there's a reason all these programs have fine print and disclaimers. I guess in the end it's a matter of convenience vs the risk of a self-upgrade malfunction.

I am chatting with an lg rep right now they have me on hold. I spoke to three and they all said different things. Two of them didn't know of the software they offer to update:/

This same thing is happening to me with V07. It keeps getting stuck at 7% and I've retried the process a few times. I guess I'll have to take mine to the verizon store and get a replacement like rhopf79. I probably should take off my custom theme too, right?

Did you try rebooting your computer? Updating all of your software? Running a factory restore on the phone?
Sometimes if one item is off and/or outdated it'll throw out the the whole process.

I had the same thing but it wasn't my phone because I tried the same thing on my old PC running Windows XP SP3 (my current has 7 Ultimate 64) and it worked fine. In fact it took like 8 minutes to update. Best thing to do is search some forums to see if your OS causes the problems or possibly do what spearman has suggested. But in short, your phone is fine if you can unplug the USB cable, then remove the battery and it will boot up.

I just tried the update again on a different computer (this one is running Windows 7 beta), and it worked in about 15 minutes! I just came from V04, and I don't really notice any big updates. Word prediction is definitely better, but that's about it. My phone might be a little faster, but that might just be all in my head since a lot of people say it got faster.
I'll have to see if battery life actually improves, which would be pretty cool. Anyway, thanks for the help, everyone!
