Hello,

My first Env Touch started to shut down repeatedly so it got swapped out for a new Env Touch this afternoon.

After installing the LG USB diver (v 4.9.6) and the LG Firmware Updater (B2CAppSetup.exe) I turned off the phone, removed the microSD card and the battery.

I connected the phone to the laptop via USB, hardware was found, and drivers installed...

I started the LG firmware updater, but it reports the phone as being disconnected, and the Start Updating button is grayed out.

So I have tried this per the V07 thread, along with having the battery in, the phone on, the phone off, etc ... and the updater is just NOT seeing the phone.

I sure could use some help folks, and thank you in advance.

Same problem here. I've tried everything.  Sad

*UPDATE*  I actually just checked to see if maybe V07 installed and I didn't know and I see that I now have V03. I started the day with V05!!! Grrrr!!  Angry

The following requires quite an effort, but it should smooth out your update issues:

Before you start, backup your contacts using Back Up Assistant. Back up the entire phone using BitPim.

1) Run Microsoft Windows Update, choose the custom option, install everything, even the optional components. Again, this may take many hours depending on how diligent you have been using MS Win update.

2) Go to Internet Options control panel. Delete temporary internet files, set all security zones to default (security tab), go to the content tab and empty the SSL cache.

3) Run disk clean up in the system tools section. Accessed differently for WinXP, Vista and Win7. Click every box EXCEPT compress old files. If you want to recover even more space on your boot hard drive, click on the options tab and choose to clean up system restore.

4) Viruses/malware also may be causing your issues. Besides updating your AV definitions, try Windows Defender and/or Malwarebytes, both free and excellent. WinDefend is built into Vista or later.

5) Turn the enV Touch off. Leave the battery in. Remove the microSD. Now connect the phone via the USB port. The phone should go into charging mode. If you don't see 'battery charging' on the enV Touch screen then not enough USB port power. Try a different USB port or don't use a hub.

6) When using the update app, follow the prompts. It will try to install drivers and perform other tasks as needed. No fear- let the software operate  as it wants and the firmware flash will proceed. The update should take less than thirty minutes.

Hello geishaslave,

Thank you for your information.  You were right - quite an effort was required, but the effort proved successful.

I did backup my contacts, but via Verizon's backup assistant app.  Everything that was of importance got put on the microsd card.  I have started reading the BitPim forums because I know almost enough to be dangerous with BitPim but not enough yet to use effectively.

The following will roughly approximate your format:

1) I ran MS Update, but the effort was redundant - I'd done that the night before, since last week was a big one for MS releasing patches.  Then restarted and launched LG's updater again, but to no avail.

2) Did delete temporary internet files, and reset security zones, and empty the SSL cache.Go to Internet Options control panel. Delete temporary internet files, set all security zones to default (security tab), go to the content tab and empty the SSL cache.  Then restarted and launched LG's updater again, but to no avail.

3) System restore is already turned off, and I did run disk cleanup - fortunately about 2 GB of junk was deleted, though 30 GB was already free.  Also ran chkdsk g: /f and restarted, but this did not help with LG's updater either.

4) Malwarebytes is indeed an awesome application, though even a full scan revealed nothing.  The firewall/antivirus suite had run a scheduled, full scan earlier in the day, and the result was negative.

5) I rotated the USB ports into which the phone had been plugged in to, both with the battery inserted, and with it out.  Same results each time.

6) After repeatedly following the prompts to install (and reinstall!) the USB drivers from within the LG Updater application, with no further prompts following, I began experimenting with the pull-down menu options.  Up to that point, the application didn't even "see" the phone.  The status window was empty.

What finally did work was the "Recovery Phone" option in the Customer Support menu: this seemed to make the application actually look for the phone, and find it.  From that point, the update option started, and the process took about 17 minutes.

Awesome to have a speakerphone again!

Thank you so much for your methodical steps - they helped me think through what was (and was not) working... It would have been nice were the process not so convoluted, but it is what it is ...

In the end, it was successful, and that's what matters.

My Touch has version 3. When I run the updater it sees that I have version 3 and says no updates are necessary as it has the latest version available. When I use the Download tab in the updater all that is shows available is the USB drivers and the manuals, no firmware updates. I'm running this on a 32 bit Win7 laptop. What am I doing wrong?

Hi Bookworm88.

For now may I recommend you should go to a VZW store and get version 7 applied?

Obviously, after the recent issues with the version 8 update, LG has temporarily removed the VX11KV08 and VX11000 support.

Make sure to first back up your contacts, calendar, etc. using your choices of third party software, Bitpim, LG Outlook Sync, or BackupAssistant. Also remove the microSD before handing your baby over for the upgrade.

I love to do things for myself but I agree in this case it would be smart to go to the store and let them do it. I have a doctor's appt. in the morning and won't be more than 5-10 minutes from them so it would be silly not to stop by.I have the v07 file and LGNPST but it seems that that could be a recipe for disaster if you don't know what you're doing.
