just take the phone to a verizon store.  so much better than doing it yourself.  they're so nice at the store.  and the one i go to has like a zillion employees who have nothing to do so i don't even have to go into any kind of queue.

and version 8 is totally worth it for the browser.  i don't if there's any other differences that i notice.

i got to play with the droid some more.  I love the screen.  and the virtual keyboards are not so bad.  but i still can't stand the real keyboard.

When compared to your enV's keyboard the droid will never stand a chance. If you want android wait it out for The Incredible by HTC, or the Google Nexus One (Also by HTC but without the sense UI). Both will be out on Verizon very soon! And they both could out preform the droid anyday. They also have the 2.1 update. Check www.engadget.com for the details of both. They have pics and all the specs.

Besides that, the only thing they didn't really fix with V08 is the T9 problems. Someday right?  Angry I'm pretty sick of "dumb phones" myself...

Regarding the Droid, there is a sequel rumored to be coming out soon, with some sweet additions but no physical qwerty keyboard. It's called the Sholes Tablet, and includes an HDMI port, which is pretty awesome, as well as an 8 MP camera. Initial specs include

    *  WCDMA / HSDPA 10.2M / HSUPA 5.76M
    * 3.7-inch-wide touch-screen , 854X480 resolution
    * 5-megapixel camera with auto-focus, Xenon flash
    * CortexTM-A8 processor
    * Accelerometer, proximity sensor, light sensor.
    * aGPS.
    *
    * WiFi b/g
    * MicroSD
    * FM tuner
    * 3.5 mm headphone jack
    * Support for MP3/AAC/AACv1/AACv2/AMR-NB/AMR-WB/MIDI/MIDI/WAV/Ogg Vorbis
    * Supported video formats MPEG4/H.263/H.264
    * Support SMS, MMS, e-mail (POP3/IMAP4) and enterprise-class e-mail
    * USB 2.0
    * Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR

Maybe the days of physical keyboards are over. With the advent of "Swype" I may be able to live with that.

Thanks for the info.  I'm not a fan of virtual keyboards.  I want the tactile feedback.

The first part of your post has a typo about the camera.  It should be 5 MP, not 8 MP.

There are conflicting reports regarding the camera. The site below listed it as having an 8 MP camera, which would be pretty phenomenal.

This was slated for a SINO-release, so it'd be pretty interested if it made it to the US.

Those specs aren't compatible with Verizon's CDMA network either.

Version 8 VX11KV08 is back on LG update.
Thanks for the update.  I guess this now safe to do from home.

I attempted an updated to v08 on Friday...well...I guess Karma got me for speakin' up sayin' how I thought some people didn't do things right.  Anyhow.  I did everything by the numbers and ended up with a fancy paper-weight.  Ended up having to switch to a different phone until Verizon could ship me out a new Touch.  Because I did that...I ended up losing all of my contacts on the server (apparently the Venus doesn't seem to play nice with Backup Assistant) It overwrote my contacts list with my g/f's contacts that I had DELETED from the phone.

Anyhow.  Long story short.  From here on out...I'll let verizon mess with software updates.  that way, if they brick it...I walk out with a new phone.

Sorry to hear that. Sad  I agree that I'm only going to let VZW do the update.  I'm a little surprised that given how glitch it apparently still is that LG is still allowing DIY updates.

Well, I'll be getting my third Env Touch either tomorrow or Wednesday.  I went and upgraded to v09 and STILL had browser crash issues.  I didn't really have browser issues until v08.  I'm actually getting tired of this phone having the issues it's been having.  If I could affordably switch to a Droid, or something else along those lines...At this point, I really think I would.

Have you tried a factory restore?

ps: if you are really going to switch, wait a lil bit, there's some cool phones about to come out.

Just updated from V07 to V08 today.  The Polaris7 browser is pretty nifty IMO.

JFC.. have they seriously STILL not fixed the T9 problems? Riduclous.. I wish I had never gotten this phone. My original enV worked better than this hunk. =\

I spoke with a tech rep the other day when I called in to get my *FIFTH* replacement touch.. and he told me about a plan that verizon will be implementing that will allow us to buy 'certified like new' phones for wayy cheap (probably close to or under the 2 year contract rates - he wasn't able to provide me with an exact amount) that way those of us unhappy with our phones can... not.. have to wait 2 freaking years to get a new phone. he said it would be implemented in the 2nd week or so of April..

Now, he may just be bs'ing me, but if it's true that will be phenominal, and I can't wait to either get a blackberry or a droid.

Current owners of non-smartphones can upgrade to smartphones at the 2 yr promotional upgrade price regardless of the lenght of the contract at any time, the only condition being that you obviously extend your contract another 2 yrs and that you live in certain markets.

If I can find the list of places I'll post it for you.
