Be careful trying this one out… my browser no longer works. The update went fine, but trying to click on the browser now causes my phone to restart.

Just finished updating to VX11KV08 using the LG update utility.

Total time 46:11.

Tips & Summary:

I noticed that the update file was over 130MB in size, much larger than when I applied v5 and v7.

Make sure to remove the microSD before updating.

Leave the battery in.

Turn the enV Touch off.

At 99%, the phone restarted, but it still took over five more minutes for the progress bar to go to 100% and the update to complete. The timer kept counting down from 59 seconds in a loop. Do not interrupt the process or you will brick your phone. Please see the following thread at HoFo if you want the gruesome details of a failed update to v8:

http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?p=13535227#post13535227

Once the update completes, turn the phone off, disconnect the USB, turn the phone on, dial *228 and when prompted, press the 1 key to program the phone. I have seen posts where VZW support says to program from the keyboard, but I have never had any issues using the outer screen virtual dialpad.

I haven't seen the release notes for vx11kv08, but I can report that my web browser is working fine-- no glitches or restarts.

Finally, I did find some other interesting things, like the update file download location, but I will post that in the hacks section.

Update:

After I was able to successfully update to EnV Touch firmware version 8 I ended up backing up my contacts with BackupAssistant then doing a restore phone (erase all user data, reset to factory defaults). The reasons are several, but mainly:

Polaris 7 browser was not working right. When started from either My Verizon or Browser it started out in the wrong place.

Phone kept beeping at random intervals like I had pressed a wrong key.

Anyway, all is well now, though I forgot to save my calendar beforehand and now have to redo my precious schedule. Oops.

I read somewhere that the even numbered updates are beta updates, is that right?

Version VX11KV08 is not beta. The phones that are supported by LG Software Updater Application receive official releases.

The VX10000 Voyager, for example, followed a pattern of even number beta, odd number official. Except, of course, for the final update of VX10KV12. The Voyager did not support FOTA or updates via the LG Software Updater Application.

MacGyver:

Please try to run the LG update again and reflash.

If no joy then PM me. If you are up to the tasks, there are some other procedures to try.

Of course, if you are still within warranty, it may be simplest to just get another phone.

cheese:

Yes, the browser is different, something called Polaris 7.

My update to V08 seemed to go fine too.....but every time I try to run the browser my phone reboots.

I called Verizon and was told that V07 was the current version/

To the others who have the browser problem, what are you doing about it? I'm wondering if it's a common issue with the update that will be fixed soon or if we're going to have to take our phones to VZW.

Took my phone in to the store, they reflashed it to V07.

I brought it home and tried the update again. Phone works fine, except just as before.....trying to use the browser just reboots the phone.
