I just updated to v07 last night using the LG Update Utility.  I see that a couple of you said you got v08 through the same utility.  When I plug my phone in, it tells me that v07 is the most up to date...Any thoughts?

Version 8 was available via LG update. Many people had problems, including damaging their phones, so VX11KV08 has been removed from the LG update server.

At the time of this post, if you want version 8, please go to a Verizon store that can perform software updates.

Thanks, I'll keep my eyes peeled in case LG reinstates v08 to the Updater.  My update to v07 took all of 10 minutes.  I can't see taking my phone to a vzw store and have to wait 20+ minutes when I can do it myself and do it in 10.

At the risk of bricking your phone if the instabilities aren't fixed?

If/when LG makes V08 available again for DIY updating, I hope whoever finds that out first mentions it here.  TIA. Smiley  (And I hope that LG fixes the bricking risk factor ! Shocked)

The reference was to when VX11KV08 would be added back to LG update, not the duration of an in store flash procedure.

I think the thing that boggles my mind the most is that what I'm getting from the posts of people who "bricked" their phones is the common factor that they all seem to have unplugged before the process was complete.  I don't know what universe they live in, but in the one I live in...99% is not the same as 100%.  What I mean by that is this.  If I'm downloading, updating, upgrading, or installing ANYTHING...I don't start unplugging things, or pushing buttons until I'm given a clear indication that the process has done what it needs to do.  When I updated to v07,  I got the hang at 7%  which maybe lasted 30 seconds...I also got the hang at 99%, which although disconcerting was neither a time to panic, nor a time to say "Ok George...It's ok to unplug my phone now."  In my experience as long as a program is doing something, whether it be a looped countdown or other activity it's not time to freak out.  Until the Task Manager tells me a program is clearly not responding...I play it safe.

I guess what I'm trying to say, is this.  The few among us who don't seem to have Common Sense just made it inconvenient for the rest who do.  Maybe LG will reinstate the update to the server...Maybe they won't.  But because of the few I have to make special arrangements to go to a VZW store.

I appologize in advance for the few of you that this offends.  But the bottom line is, someone HAD to say it.

that's true for some people, but there are a lot of people whose update quit on them at 99% (there was a message confirming that something went wrong), and were forced to unplug. That happened to me, and luckily all i had to do was imstall the polaris browser with bitpim... others didn't get so lucky. Some people unplugged, but it seems like the failures are being blamed on that. I think (or would like to think) that the update was taken down in response to those who followed common sense and still had problems. The LG updater software is notorious for not working on some computer setups, and this update seems like it did more damage than the others in the same situations.

The new browser? I think I'm keeping my Touch as-is until I can upgrade to a Droid in a couple months. So sick of dumb phones.
