Music is the Key to the soul!

« on: June 14, 2009, 01:54:34 AM »

Ok so now that we have figured out how to get into the filesystem with the Touch, I figured I would make a tutorial to show how to add things through BitPim if you don't already know how.  I will just be placing an animated picture i did real quick in Ps in the place as one of the "fun animation" .swf files.  I haven't gotten around to making a clock for the touch yet. **UPDATE- BitPim now has the Touch as a supported phone.

1. Download the latest version of BitPim (http://www.bitpim.org/)
2. once that is installed on your computer. Open BitPim and your screen should look similar to this.

You may not be able to see the tab that says filesystem so to fix this simply go to VIEW and then View Filesystem and that should take care of that.

3. If BitPim does not find your phone automatically, go to to the top and go to edit-settings and where it says Phone Type and then you have the scroll down list.  Select the Touch, Dare, or Voyager settings

Press Ok after you are done choosing whichever settings you chose. and now you will be able to see a folder. that opens your filesystem. click the arrow by the folder to open it. *it will probably take a few seconds to open*

Now all the files should be showing.  Then click on the file that says Flash-UI-wallpaper, and you should see the fun animation .swf files that we are going to replace. *note* Main.swf is for the internal screen and Sub.swf is for the External screen.

Now since i want my animated wallpaper to be on the external screen, i'm going to right click on WallpaperType1Sub.swf and click Overwrite. Then its going to open up all your files.  Just find the .swf file you want to overwrite with and click open. Then you just wait till the little bar in the bottom left hand side is green and says Ready.

Then ON YOUR PHONE, just go into Settings & Tools-Display settings-Wallpaper-External-Fun Animations-And choose the first one (Light), And remember, the name and the display image will not change when you overwrite a fun animation but when you click it and choose to save it as your wallpaper it WILL show up.

Then you have the final result on your phone.

I will also post the .swf file if anyone wants the wallpaper.
This is also how you install custom made clocks onto your Touch.
Hope this tutorial helped.

I seem to recall that the option to view the phone's filesystem within bitpim isn't always active by default.  Some people may need to select the "View Filesystem" under the View menu before they can alter it.

I got into BITpim and was able to find everything above.  But there is no way of sending data from the phone to BITpim yet is there?  I want to start editing my phonebook info since this is a big transition from the Blackberry Pearl to the touch.  The touch is impressing me though so far.  I'm digging the games.  Any thoughts on the transferring though?

I just tried to access my phonebook from BitPim and it didn't work, We might be stuck with waiting for BitPim to have the Touch as a supported phone.

What swf file were you using?  Only swf files published from Flash 7 or lower or Flash Lite 2.1 will work on the phone.  Also, make sure the file is sized properly.  If it's too large, it won't work properly.

No problem.  The Flash version is the most common issue when trying to get custom files to run properly.
