Use BitPim.  There's several tutorials in these boards.  It's rather simple.

Also, are you using VZW's Backup Assitant?  It's free if you're signed up for the MY ACCOUNT on VZW.com.

Click on the Import Button, from the menu buttons up top in Bitpim. and select contacts.

Check that your drivers are up to date.  And that the version of BitPim you're using is the correct one. :-)

I would highly recommend www.synccell.com  .... which I have been using w/o issue for several weeks.  The UI is excellent, as well as the features.

Supports Outlook contacts and calendar, and also backs up / restores text messages.

check out some of the other BitPim threads, some of the other users have figured settings out pretty well.  I pretty much gave up on BitPIm.

In Bitpim, hit the Get Phone Data button (Top-left, icon with a Phone and a Green Arrow on the right side of the phone), check Phonebook and click Replace All, hit okay, Go to File -> Export -> CSV Contacts, save it. Done.
