save the mp3 or acc or m4p song to your computer.
go to http://www.youmobile.org/mms.php
enter ur # and other settings and info
select ur file
hit send!

the file will b sent to ur phone in a NORMAL text message. it should come from a place kinda like mocheng@lg-vu.l.vu.com or sumthin.

hit options and tap "save sound as ringtone".
ur done!

GOOD LUCK!

NOTE: THIS SERVICE IS FREE. YOUMOBILE DOES NOT CHARGE FOR SERVICES. STANDARD TXT MSGNG RATES APPLY. NOT PREMIUM. NORMAL! ABSOLUTELY FREE IF U HAVE A TXTNG PLAN.

You can use Bitpim to directly send it to your phone, or you can send it via email/pix message to your10digitnumber@vzwpix.com (replace "your10digitnumber" with you actual number).  Once you get the message, save it as a ringtone.

I wonder why you can't use ringtones from the "my_sounds" folder.  That's annoying.  So I guess you have to use BitPim (or e-mail).  With BitPim, in which folder do custom ringtones go in?  Thanks.

You can use ringtones in your my_sounds folder. What you need to do is Go into Media Center, then Music & Tones, and then My Sounds, Now any ringtones you have in there you can actually clock on Set As and make then ringtone, alert sounds, or a personal ringer.

Thanks, I saw that shortly after I wrote my above post.  But the puzzling thing is that the phone should let you set a custom ringtone for someone by Edit Contact and then going to the Ringtone area and selecting Set.  When you do that, it only shows you the Verizon ringtone folder.  To give that contact an actual custom ringtone, you have to use the procedure you described.  It's no biggie, but just a design shortcoming or possible flaw, IMO.

I tried both the website and emailing to my 10 digit number and both failed.

I don't guess its that big of a deal but I'm bored at work and just decided to try it Tongue

Phonezoo works quite well and its free. Under the sites FAQ it says the site is free but youll get quite the bill if you dont have unlimited txt messaging.

How exactly do you figure that one?  There are plenty of other messaging plans that would avoid any other charges using that site to send ringtones to your phone.  And if you don't have any messaging plan on the Touch, why on Earth did you waste the money to buy the Touch in the first place?

Sometimes Verizon blocks msn or hotmail when I try the 10digit@vzwpix.com.  It will get sent back to my email.  I have had no trouble when using my gmail account.

Put the sound in your sound folder on your memory card, put memory card into phone, go to sounds, text it to yourself.  Once you receive the text, it will start playing the sound.  Click on options, I believe, and say to add as a ringtone.  I do that all the time for any ringtone I want.  I also use Zedge.net and just save the ringtone to my computer, insert my memory card into the computer, move the sound to the card and use the above instructions.  Very easy!!

I used to use Mobile17, then Phone Zoo.

I guess since the Touch as more on-board memory, I can use a couple personalized ring tones.  :-)

i found it. go to the folder when you first go to BitPim. hten go to brew>mod>10889>ringtones   there is also a folder in there called 'sys' (without '). not sure what that is for though. but i think all you need to do is drag the files into that folder. you might have to convert to mp3 though. hope i helped!   Grin

Thanks for following up from a while ago, but I found out it also works from the my_sounds folder, too.  Not sure why I couldn't figure it out back then in July.  Thanks again.
