I heard that the enV Touch is "app friendly"...according to Verizon. I'm getting this device tomorrow, by the way.

I've heard from other users of this phone that it really isn't as app friendly as they market it to be...

I'm waiting for the free third party apps to show up...anyone heard about Verizon "opening the doors" a little more? Any thoughts...?

What about the apps the phone itself already contains?

Tell me whatever I should know.

You can't add any third party apps to this phone.  Even when/if Verizon finally launches their 3rd party BREW plans, you will still only be able to get the apps directly from Verizon.  They may have loosened it a notch but you're still hanging from the same old noose.

it has only been a couple of weeks since the op asked the question, how would not being able to get third party apps from anywhere but vzw of changed? the only phones capable of dling 3rd party apps on vzw without going through vzw are smart phones

Is it me or are we getting locked down more and more?  With technology advancing so much, were getting less and less.  If were paying $400 (according to the phone companies) that means we should have a lot more choice and capabilities.  How could a phone in this day and age not have or be able to handle third party apps?  We have a 16gb data card for photos and songs and can not even put them in sub folders!?!?!?!?  Yea, there are smart phones, but, havnt they screwed us enough on that!?  We really need to stop paying these bozo's or something.  This is getting as bad as the housing scandal.  police

That's the point though.  You have a choice not to pay them if you are so dissatisfied. It's not some super secret that you can't add 3rd party apps to Verizon's dumbphones.  Minimal research into the topic let's you know not to expect anything more than what Verizon offers directly, as far as apps go.  It may suck but the world of BlackBerries and other smartphones requires a monthly data plan twice as expensive as the Vpak for the Touch.  If 3rd party apps are one of the features that are really important to you, then you know you will need to upgrade your phone category in the future.

I paid $79.99, so I guess I can't complain too much.

My Voyager lasted me 2 years, so I'm hoping this one does too.  Maybe in that time frame there'll be cool apps to use.
