I bought the enV Touch in June.  Less than two months later it needed to be replaced.  The list of problems that phone had is too long to list here, and not really pertinent.

So now I'm on my refurbished enV Touch.  The very first issue I had with it was that some of the chrome on the inside was chipped off.  That made me extremely upset as I just bought a BRAND NEW phone, I put screen protectors on the LCD's and always have a hard case on my entire phone... then ended up with a scratched up refurb.  I take extremely good care of my phones so this was very upsetting.  Verizon said they'd replace it again, but I decided to see how the phone would hold up first.

Now two-three months later I think I'm going to have to get a SECOND refurb.  Which still makes me very angry since I should have a BRAND NEW PHONE in my opinion, NOT a refurb.

The issues:

1) It randomly resets itself.  Especially when taking video.  Occasionally when taking pictures.  This of course makes me very angry and frustrated since most times I'm filming my 16 month old son.

2) I bought a brand new 8 GB memory card for this phone, and it constantly says "Maximum photos of card reached".  Removing the card and re-inserting it has always fixed this problem in the past, but now it absolutely refuses to put any more pictures or videos on the memory card.  Upon looking at the card memory usage it says total used is 315.5 MB, and 7.1 GB available.  So WHY am I getting a "Maximum photos of card reached" error???  Ugh.  If anyone has a fix for this, please let me know... because now the phone memory is almost full.

3) The front screen is starting to not work correctly.  Which is a problem my first phone had as well.  For example, when I'm talking on the phone and need to see the keypad ("push 1 for so and so"), the screen just stays black.  Or when I want to end a call sometimes the "end" button won't show up, and I'll have to open the phone up to disconnect the call.

4) When I open the phone up, the hinges seem to "stick" now and make a noise, like a squeak.  This seems to be getting worse and worse.  It's getting harder and harder to open smoothly like the phone used to, and it makes that annoying sound.

5) The battery life is still HORRIBLE.  Just awful.  I don't do anything but text and use mobile AIM, but Verizon keeps telling me that the more apps I use the quicker the battery drains (duh), and that there is no way to shut off apps that you don't even use from draining the battery life... because apparently they always run in the background.

6) I'll get errors from almost every charger I use that "this charger is not recommended for this phone".  Even the charger straight from Verizon...

7) The phone will say "charge complete".  Sometimes after an hour, sometimes after five minutes.  Obviously after five minutes, once I unplug it, within a few minutes it starts beeping at me again that the battery is dying...

I think that's it.  Sorry for the long post.  I was originally in love with this phone, except for the short battery life, which I learned to live with... but now I really miss my old enV.   Sad

i dont know about any of the other problems, but i tend to get the same battery response. i just deal with it dude, like i'll just disconnect and plug it back in so it'll charge fully... i dont think its your phone having the problem, its just a general problem.. and about the  card memory, thats wierd, because i have a 4 gig card and it doesnt say that 4 me. dont know what to say, just make sure your setting are set so that everything will save to the card.
do so by,
1) Go to settings
2)Go to memory
3) Save options
4) Choose Card Memory for all of the topics

Hoped i helped bro

For the hardware related issues, I'd take it to tech support at VZW and be like "hi I'd like a new one that doesn't do this."

As for the software related ones, have you tried doing a reinstall of the firmware?

If you're interested in keeping the phone you have and would go to certain lengths to do so, I would upgrade to the latest firmware and see if that fixes some of your glitches. If not, you should definitely take it back and try to replicate some of the problems for them. I heard something saying that if you were to get 2 more replacements that sucked equally (and you can prove it), they will give you a bona fide brand new phone. It's something to look into. It sounds like your phone's problems wouldn't be very hard to make occur in the store.
As far as the dial pad not showing up when you have to enter numbers, that is probably a problem with your proximity sensor. If you're using a screen protector you're going to want to go into the service menu and recalibrate the proximity sensor. You can find out how to do this by using the search function (I don't want to risk giving you faulty directions!). Be careful not to mess with the service menu too much if you don't know what you're doing. You can brick your phone and void your warranty.
Good luck!

Thanks for the replies.

I spoke to Verizon on Friday and received another refurbished Touch yesterday.  I've yet to get everything switched over though.  I'll give refurb #2 a try and see how long it lasts for.

The tech -- who was really no help at all, it seems like as soon as the list of issues is more than two or three items long they just say "we'll get you out a new phone asap" -- did mention that if this phone goes bad within 90 days that I am eligible for a brand spanking new phone.  And not necessarily another Touch either.  So as much as I don't want to pay for a data plan, I'm seriously considering moving to Motorola and getting the Droid.  Plan B would be to just get a brand new Touch and sell it so that I can afford to get the Droid.

The tech tried to put a lot of blame on LG.  But I was just like... well I didn't buy the phone from LG I bought it from Verizon, so maybe Verizon should sell phones that work the way they're advertised to and not die within two months of only moderate use.

Thanks again for the replies...

I hate to be the VZW defender, but build quality is all about LG.  Phones go through ridic amounts of testing before they're allowed into the network.  So if there's a bad batch through manufacturing at the LG plants, there's really very little ways to know than to troubleshoot.  Unfortunately the trouble shooting is done by us the end-user.

Good deal. I have to agree that the functionality of the phone is the responsibility of LG, and that is why it is LG that puts out firmware updates, and not Verizon.
But, that's neither here nor there. Verizon is obviously willing to work with the owners of these phones that kinda got screwed, and that's a very good thing for you. Let's hope this one screws up and you get the functioning, brand new phone that you paid for =)

Well, the way I see is it... I paid Verizon, not LG.  While I understand that LG manufactured the phone and are therefore ultimately at fault... Verizon takes my money every month, Verizon sold/endorsed this phone, etc.  But yes, Verizon has been willing so far to work with me.

If this next refurb works... I'm fine with that.  But I still feel that it's BS that I just bought the thing in JUNE and am all ready on my second refurb.  So in a way I want this next refurb to fail just so I can get a NEW phone... BUT I'll be happy if it just WORKS and STAYS working too... because this has all been a huge PITA for me.

Haha, at least you didn't go through 7 Dares, 3 Versas, and 2 enV Touches all in the course of 10 months Smiley

And yeah, I got a crappy refurb Touch that pissed me off since I take really good care of my phones, and the one I "traded in" was literally 1 week old and in perfect condition. I also got a semi bad batch, the hinge is crappy and the screen is a little less responsive than the one I got the week it was released Sad
