there was one day where my battery went from full to dead in about 3 hours, and i ended up charging the phone completely 3 times in 1 day.  then i noticed that when connected to mobile IM, the phone will NOT autolock and the screen will NOT turn off automatically, have to press the lock button.  the voyager didnt have this problem. then screen will turn off, and come back when a message was received.

now when i pay attention and manually lock the phone, the battery still has 2 bars at the end of the day IM'ing and texting all day. no idea why its like this, its really annoying and it destroys the battery

did you drain the battery down like 3 or 4 times when you got it? I know they say you don't need to drain the battery on a lithium-Ion  battery cause it supposedly has no "memory" but i have noticed in the past with all of my phones if i didn't do that the battery wouldn't last at all...

I tried the draining to 0 then charging all the way back up before turning it on technique ... but I still go through those first 3 bars in a matter of hours then that last battery bar seems to hang tough for a while.

The battery meter is software enhanced in that it predicts battery life based on usage, so the question would be, can't they just allow us to further manipulate the power saving options like in the Voyager?  geez oh man.

The battery meter is a bit of a joke.  It goes from 4 bars to 3 bars in about half of its life and then the final 3 bars in the remaining half.  Also, once it's below 4 bars, then numbers are kind of arbitrary.  I've seen it jump from 2 to 3 then back to 2, then 1, then 2.  Almost like the signal strength indicator!  Roll Eyes

Glad to see I'm not going insane, sad that there's not reliable way to know when to ease up on usage so that the battery makes it through the commute back home.

Yes, it's annoying for the battery to act like that.  Even w/ firmware V05, it hasn't improved much, if at all.  But I've never drained my battery in 3 hours.  You must be doing a lot of surfing, texting, and talking during that time.  Or you're in a fringe area that's making the phone use a lot of power to seek a signal.

Yup, the combination of steady texting and MP3 player thrown into a bad reception area has to be the killer.  I took a different bus route in today (totally running late fml) and it only used up 1 bar.

I'll be *228'ing once a month for a while!!

I was told it was a software problem and they are sending me a new phone.  Call Verizon.  I think they must be aware of the problem or they wouldn't have sent me a new phone with no agument.
