Hello everyone. I've had great success with animated ,gif files working as my wallpaper for the outside screen. However, I am searching Google images search for possible matches and nothing is coming up; at least, nothing that I'm interested in. If anyone has found any animated gifs, please post! Or has everyone found some cool themes that do something similar?

I found one posted on this website, for the inside screen, but can't seem to get it to work...

How are you getting yours to work?

I tried saving it as a regular image, but BitPim turned the gif into a jpeg so it was just a static image. Then, when I went into the filesystem to replace one of the animated wallpapers, I went to view it (to make sure I replaced the right file) and it displayed a little error-looking icon that said F9. Now I've read that this phone handles up to flash 7 or something like that...you have any ideas how to convert this down to a recognizable format?

Animated gif's don't need to be added using bitpim. Just drop the file into the wallpaper folder on your memory card. The stock animated wallpapers on the Touch are swf files, not gif. If you would prefer it in swf format so you can overwrite one of those stock files, I can certainly convert it for you but it isn't really necessary.

I don't use BitPim to transfer photos, it sounds like that might be a good thing on my part.

Save the image as it is, a .gif file. I then copyed it to my SD card and then moved it to the phone. I then went to the picture viewer and set it as internal. Works great. You could even set it as external - it would show as a small rectangle but it still animates.

If you don't have an SD card, just email the file from your computer to your phone and then set it.

Bah, I've been lazy and haven't gotten a card for it yet lol...I will be ordering one soon...

e-T if you could convert that to swf for me that would be freakin awesome! I'm only using 2 out of 3 of the animated walls for custom stuff right now so I don't mind overwriting one more.

I don't know if it plays slower once it's on the phone (in converted swf format) but if not could you possibly slow it up a bit as well if that's not the case? I'd really appreciate it!  Grin

If you just email this .gif file to your cell, xxxxxxxxxx@vzwpix.com, you'll be able to take care of this right now.

*updated with proper email suffix

Coming up as soon as I get the software up and running.

I've never tried it myself but I thought I had seen people in the past post that animated gif's were converted to still gif's when sending them through picture mail?

Also, the email address for pix messages is yourphonenumber@vzWpix.com.  Don't forget that 'W' in there.

*Edit*

Wow, there are 476 frames in that gif.  That is way too many in my experience.  It will never play all the way through before the animation freezes, even if I converted it to an swf.

Thanks for correcting me on the email for Verizon phones.

As an animated .gif in its form now, the picture plays all the way through with no lags for me. I don't even know how to go about making .swf files, so I'll stick to finding other ones on my own, or cropping existing ones on my own.

That star trek gif, set as your wallpaper, plays all the way through without any lag or freezing and without you having to hit any buttons on your phone to keep it active?

Well, looking at it now, it does slow down a bit. It doesn't make it though all the frames before the screen fades after 30 seconds. But if I keep touching it then obviously it makes it though the entire sequence. I wish I had the patience to make something cool like this on my own.

Well, I got it to transfer properly through bitpim finally, but it's kind of a backwards way to do it lol...

I was attempting to add it directly as an image through the Phone>Media>Images tab, and for whatever reason that was turning it into a jpeg when it transferred...but when I went through the filesystem folders and drag'n'dropped it into the wallpaper folder it worked fine.

And yes, mine plays all the way through as well...though it does lag a little bit when put as the wallpaper on the inside screen. When I view the file on the external it plays without a hitch (till the screen shuts itself off) though I can only view it properly, not set it as a bg (due to improper orientation).

A friend of mine is considering taking that gif and making it into an interactive flash bg. He wants to make it so that you press certain areas of the ship and it brings up the schematic for that spot. I don't know how well he knows flash to be able to do that, or if it would be too large of a file and cause problems...but if he does it and it works I will def post it up here!

THAT would be great! The ST:TNG interface style is called LCARS (if you didn't already know that) and there are no shortages of images that come up when you search for them. I'm definitely interested!

Well I think he was just going to tear apart that gif and recycle those images, but he might be motivated enough to start from scratch...esp if we could find enough images of a more realistic origin. He tends to be a bit of a procrastinator though, so we'll see what happens. I'll try to keep pestering him about it and see if I get anywhere.

In the meantime, if anyone here knows how to animate feel free to take this idea and run with it!

ET,
I do not have a wallpaper folder on my memory card.  I tried to drop the gif file into my pix folder, but I got a staticy image just like ShaggyGlucose was talking about.  And I have tried the same processes as ShaggyGlucose with the same results.
Could anyone please tell us a way we can get our gif files on the phone and it look correct?
