It really depends on what you are creating your animated images from. The method for making animated wallpapers will differ if you are working to convert a scene from a movie or just bringing a bunch of still images together like a slide show. In either case, for the phone's purposes you will want your end product to be a gif or swf file. Gifs allow you to simply store the wallpaper on your memory card or install directly into the phone's internal memory through bitpim. Swf files will have to overwrite the fun animation wallpapers already on the phone so you are limited to the number of custom swf wallpapers that can be on the phone at once. Overall though, you will get higher quality with lower file size by using the swf format. I mention the file size because the larger the file, the more problems will arise when the phone tried to play it back. Jpg files cannot be animated.

You people are forgetting the basics! You can make your animated wallpapers as an MP4 video...
Why do you ask I make wallpapers out of MP4 video? 1. Small File Size 2. I don't need to deal with Bitpim (grrr) 3. Make your animation in a format known, and then it is possible to convert it to 800 x 480 MP4 4. Don't need to replace any internal files 5. Unlimited Number of them (as much as your memory can hold atleast) 6. Can be held in MicroSD 7. With the correct recording and conversions, quality will be just as good as it is on the SWF's and DEFINATELY better than the GIF's
Ofcourse this only for the internal screen. BUT there is a way to rotate the video to 480 x 800. So yes I believe it's possible on the external, (haven't tryed yet, will get back to you on that when I have the time though)
Oh btw, to make a video as your wallpaper, Play the video. Then tap the screen while playing, there should be a blue icon thing on the top right, tap that, scroll down then select "Set As" then select as whichever screen you want.

you could of just made a slide show wallpaper from the phone, you didn't really need a gif or an animation like that.

I just rather not mod the internal files of the touch. I just stick to simpler means (like Mp4 backgrounds) if I want something on the phone.

That looks pretty good. Does the program let you set the time interval between the pictures (for example, to change every 1 sec., every 10 sec., etc.)? Also, is there a limit on how many pictures can be stored in an animated GIF using that program, other than your phone or card's memory?
