"Crazy as they are, they're not crazy" - Scought

« on: July 13, 2009, 09:46:51 PM »

Alright so i Took My Vu apart, and changed the hard key colors.
Kinda Similair to the way the tutorial says on the Voyager site.
Well i decided to do this with my phone.
Took some effort to get the keys off.
Removed 2 stickers covering the LED lights (To enhance brightness).
And Simply Sharpied over the LED
I help the keys over the place where they fit in order to see how it turned out.
BEUTIFUL!
Then came the time to put the keys back on.
It took me hell to get the keys back on.
I ultimately, screwed it up.
The End key feels as though it doesnt "press", but it works.
And the call key, i can touch the Message Icon (on the main screen) with enough pressure in order to hit the call key.
I HIGHLY SUGGEST YOU NOT DO THIS
I am going to call Verizon tomorrow and see what i can get worked out about either
A) Taking it in to a store, and having them Replace the buttons.
B) Getting a new phone.

OMG!  Man, I hope they will work with you.  Hacking and taking apart the phone is all the excuse they need to void your warranty.  Thanks for the warning about not doing this.  Good luck.

why don't you just take the color off of the lights before you take it in.  That way you can just tell them that you dropped it and can get insurance if you have it to get another one.

Yeah, definitely don't go in and allow them to see that you made physical alterations to the internal portions of the phone.  Take a cotton swab, dip in in alcohol, and wipe the color off.  Hell, if there's no physical evidence of damage (i.e. scratches, marks, etc.) and you are able to get the colors off, you can probably play it off as something that just happened through normal use because of some defect in the phone.

Alright, I did slightly get this fixed.
The keys all function as hey used to.
YAY!
But i had to break part of the key cover off.
Just a little metal piece.
My guess is that they made the phone so that the keys couldnt come out.

I never liked electronics that had pieces that you couldnt figure out how to take apart or get back together. Makes a hell of a time for people like us trying to mod, enhance what we have.

E-T I suggest not being dishonest. He took the risk of modding his phone, I don't think verizon should have to eat those costs. Things like this are what make honest buyers like us that have a problem get questioned like we are some type of thief.

Don't take it the wrong way, im just saying, not very honest or nice.

I agree.  The person tried to mod the phone, but unsuccessfully.  VZW shouldn't have to eat the cost b/c someone did something w/ their product that he shouldn't have.

That said, good to hear that MrChickenRings was able to get it to work again and give a "dont' try this at home" warning.  Wink

To be honest I was really going to attempt this, but after one unsucessful try im not going to guinea pig myself haha.

I really wish the send call button was green and the end call button was red.. honestly a green and red led are not any different cost, if it was blue I COULD see the argument BUT COME ON!! ha.

Btw chicken you shouldve done a video so we could see what it looked like, I know a lot of electronics can have little tabs and crap that are a pita to move or take apart. wouldve been nice to see what we are going up against..

Oh well done and over with, UNLESS OF COURSE YOU DID TAKE A VIDEO?  Shocked

Are you kidding?  If you start experiencing glitches on the phone's software, are you going to admit to Verizon that you used bitpim on it at some point?  The warranty is voided by using anything like bitpim to access your phone's system.  Whether or not it caused the problem, you have done something forbidden by Verizon so your warranty would no longer be valid and you no longer deserve a replacement handset unless you pay full retail for it.

Wow haven't been on here in a long time.
Just an update, I finally got around to taking my phone into a store.
After I lost my keys, the touch screen stopped working, and the end call key stopped working. xD
Insurance covered it, new phone, experimented with the old one before sending it back, don't try to fiddle with the QWERTY keyboard either, damn near impossible to get those keys back on.
About the honesty thing, I have personally have a problem with authority, and I have a sort of loath towards big corporations and such.
Honestly they're making sh'loads of money off all their customers, and they screwed my mom and I over on our first month of plan, giving us misleading information costing us $200.
One phone isn't going to bankrupt their company (sadly).
I say they can eat the cost because they make plenty more.

When I put mine in the washer ... I was glad I had the insurance on it, since I didn't have to come up with a credible story.  The lady LOVED my story and laughed for a while.
