Is there a way to make the external screen stay on all the time. Here's my scenario. I have the Touch in a cell phone vent holder in my car. It is connected to a FM transmitter so I can play the music that's on my Touch through the car stereo(FM). I would like to plug the Touch into the car charger and have the external screen stay 'live' so I can see what music is playing, advance to the next track, pause etc.  It now goes dim after 30 seconds for which seems to be the max. It means I have to do 'the thing' to get the screen back so it's visible. I don't want to do 'the thing'. Any ideas?

There is no way to make the external display stay on. You can maximize the time it stays on to 1 minute. You can however, make the internal screen stay on. Maybe you could find a way to have your phone mounted to your dash with the flip open. Good luck

There is a thread on this forum about a glitch that causes the screen to not automatically turn off when using the instant messaging app. Maybe if you start the IM client before you drive anywhere, the glitch could work to your advantage. It's worth a try.

Here's a link to the thread http://www.env-touch.com/index.php?topic=1286.0

Where's the glitch when you want it? No, running IM does not any longer leave the screen on.

I've got your fix!!!!

What you need to do is connect your Touch to a car charger..... The screen will stay on and after no use will dim to the unlock looking screen but will not need to be unlocked.

All you have to do is touch the screen and then touch again to use a button!

Hope this helps everyone out!!!

You nailed it!! Works great. I have two power ports so I plugged the cell charger in one and the FM transmitter in the other. Thanks!!

I have a different scenario - when I am calling or being called by an automated system that requires that I input responses via the number keypad (like calling into my work VM), I am unable to do so after the screen goes black.  Can you tell me what 'the thing' is, and will it work during a phone call?  I've tried a number of things, including, in Call Settings, checking the checkbox to show the dialpad for all calls.  Do I have to turn Auto Lock off?  Thanks!

EDIT: Sorry for my impatience - I dug around more in the forum and found other threads on this topic besides this one that answered my question.  I was previously unaware of the proximity sensor and found that I needed to calibrate it due to my screen protector.  I'm still curious what 'the thing' is, though.
